Steven	29767f6b51	fix(aot): reserve x18 register on macOS ARM64 (#4775) ... * fix(aot): reserve x18 register on macOS ARM64 Apple reserves CPU register x18 for TLS on ARM64. When generating AOT code for aarch64 on macOS, LLVM may use x18, causing crashes when the AOT code runs on macOS ARM64 (M1/M2/M3). This patch: 1. Detects darwin/macho ABI and sets correct vendor string 2. Detects darwin/apple in default triple for platform detection 3. Adds +reserve-x18 to LLVM target features for aarch64 on macOS The fix only applies when compiling on macOS ARM64 hosts, ensuring generated AOT code is compatible with Apple's platform requirements. * test(aot): add x18 register reservation test for macOS ARM64 Add a standalone test to verify that the +reserve-x18 LLVM flag is correctly applied when compiling AOT for macOS ARM64. On macOS ARM64, x18 is reserved by Apple for TLS (Thread Local Storage). Without the +reserve-x18 flag, LLVM may generate code that uses x18, causing random SIGSEGV crashes (~80% crash rate in testing). The test: - Creates a WASM module with 24 local variables to stress register allocation - Compiles to AOT with -O3 optimization (which would use x18 without the fix) - Runs 1000 iterations to verify no crashes occur - Only runs on macOS ARM64 (skipped on other platforms) Test results: - Without fix: 82/100 crash rate - With fix: 0/100 crash rate (1000 iterations verified)	2026-01-20 07:30:58 +08:00

TianlongLiang	8a55a1e7a1	Shared heap enhancements for Interpreter and AOT (#4400) ... Propose two enhancements: - Shared heap created from preallocated memory buffer: The user can create a shared heap from a pre-allocated buffer and see that memory region as one large chunk; there's no need to dynamically manage it(malloc/free). The user needs to make sure the native address and size of that memory region are valid. - Introduce shared heap chain: The user can create a shared heap chain, from the wasm app point of view, it's still a continuous memory region in wasm app's point of view while in the native it can consist of multiple shared heaps (each of which is a continuous memory region). For example, one 500MB shared heap 1 and one 500 MB shared heap 2 form a chain, in Wasm's point of view, it's one 1GB shared heap. After these enhancements, the data sharing between wasm apps, and between hosts can be more efficient and flexible. Admittedly shared heap management can be more complex for users, but it's similar to the zero-overhead principle. No overhead will be imposed for the users who don't use the shared heap enhancement or don't use the shared heap at all.	2025-07-04 10:44:51 +08:00

Marcin Kolny	cbc2078898	AOT call stack optimizations (#3773) ... - Implement TINY / STANDARD frame modes - tiny mode is only able to keep track on the IP and func idx, STANDARD mode provides more capabilities (parameters, stack pointer etc.). - Implement FRAME_PER_FUNCTION / FRAME_PER_CALL modes - frame per function adds code at the beginning and at the end of each function for allocating / deallocating stack frame, whereas in per-call mode the frame is allocated before each call. The exception is call to the imported function, where frame-per-function mode also allocates the stack before the `call` instruction (as it can't instrument the imported function). At the moment TINY + FRAME_PER_FUNCTION is automatically enabled in case GC and perf profiling are disabled and `values` call stack feature is not requested. In all the other cases STANDARD + FRAME_PER_CALL is used. When `--stack-bounds-checks` is not set, it will be the same value as `--bounds-checks`. 2. Anders Bakken	e8c2952bf9	Fix arm64 issues on mac (#3688) ... Make wamrc normalize "arm64" to "aarch64v8". Previously the only way to make the "arm64" target was to not specify a target on 64 bit arm-based mac builds. Now arm64 and aarch64v8 are treated as the same. Make aot_loader accept "aarch64v8" on arm-based apple (as well as accepting legacy "arm64" based aot targets). This also removes __APPLE__ and __MACH__ from the block that defaults size_level to 1 since it doesn't seem to be supported for aarch64: `LLVM ERROR: Only small, tiny and large code models are allowed on AArch64`	2024-08-23 09:49:06 +08:00

For JIT, we naturally use mach-o on macOS, where the section name we currently use is not valid and ends up with the errors like: ``` LLVM ERROR: Global variable '__orc_lcl.aot_stack_sizes.0' has an invalid section specifier '.aot_stack_sizes': mach-o section specifier requires a segment and section separated by a comma. ``` Because the dedicated section is not necessary for JIT, this commit simply stops using it. dongsheng28849455	4f6d70bc52	Use indirect call in pre-checker function to avoid relocation in XIP mode (#3142) ... The stack profiler `aot_func#xxx` calls the wrapped function of `aot_func_internal#xxx` by using symbol reference, but in some platform like xtensa, it’s translated into a native long call, which needs to resolve the indirect address by relocation and breaks the XIP feature which requires the eliminating of relocation. The solution is to change the symbol reference into an indirect call through the lookup table, the code will be like this: ```llvm call_wrapped_func: ; preds = %stack_bound_check_block %func_addr1 = getelementptr inbounds ptr, ptr %func_ptrs_ptr, i32 75 %func_tmp2 = load ptr, ptr %func_addr1, align 4 tail call void %func_tmp2(ptr %exec_env) ret void ```	2024-02-27 11:17:57 +08:00

Wenyong Huang	16a4d71b34	Implement GC (Garbage Collection) feature for interpreter, AOT and LLVM-JIT (#3125) ... Implement the GC (Garbage Collection) feature for interpreter mode, AOT mode and LLVM-JIT mode, and support most features of the latest spec proposal, and also enable the stringref feature. Use `cmake -DWAMR_BUILD_GC=1/0` to enable/disable the feature, and `wamrc --enable-gc` to generate the AOT file with GC supported. And update the AOT file version from 2 to 3 since there are many AOT ABI breaks, including the changes of AOT file format, the changes of AOT module/memory instance layouts, the AOT runtime APIs for the AOT code to invoke and so on.	2024-02-06 20:47:11 +08:00

Assumptions: - LLVM preserves the order of functions in a module - The wrapper function are smaller than the wrapped functions - The target CPU has "short" PC-relative variation of call/jmp instructions and they are preferrable over the "long" ones. Wenyong Huang	b21f17dd6d	Refine AOT/JIT code call wasm-c-api import process (#2982) ... Allow to invoke the quick call entry wasm_runtime_quick_invoke_c_api_import to call the wasm-c-api import functions to speedup the calling process, which reduces the data copying.
