James Ring	8ac06490db	Set thread information earlier in exec_env creation (#3967) ... For boundary checking, WAMR calls `pthread_attr_np`, which is unfortunately quite slow on Linux when not called on the main thread (see https://github.com/bytecodealliance/wasm-micro-runtime/issues/3966 for discussion). This change moves the cost of stack bounds checking earlier in the wasm_exec_env creation process. The idea is that it's perhaps better to pay the price when creating the execution environment rather than in the first function call. The original code is left in place inside `call_wasm_with_hw_bound_check` in case the `wasm_exec_env` is created via `wasm_runtime_spawn_exec_env`.	2024-12-24 07:25:52 +08:00

[1] Therefore, CMake might perform tests for both C and C++ compilers as part of the configuration phase. However, this has the consequence of the configuration phase to fail if the system does not have a C++ toolchain installed, even if C++ is not really used by the top-level project under the default settings. Some configurations might still require a C++ toolchain, so enable_language is selectively called under such circumstances. Since the top-level CMakelists.txt is appending `-fvisibility=hidden` to the compile options, no public symbols are exported by default. This forbids users from linking against the shared library. Using `gcc/clang` attributes [1], it is possible to override the definition for `WASM_RUNTIME_API_EXTERN` so that only required symbols are correctly exported. Dylan Johnston	9d8150efae	Fix WASI Path Mapping Processing (#3923) ... Filesystem paths can be mapped from the host path to a guest path using the format `<guest-path>::<host-path>`. Previously `strtok` was used to find the `::` delimiter. Unfortunately `strtok` processes each delimiter character individually. This meant that the code was ~equivalent to `strtok(mapping_copy, ":")` which breaks with Windows-style paths (E.g. `C:\my_path\`). James Ring	fdda259d36	Fix linked global initialization in multimodule (#3905) ... While resolving linked globals in multi-module mode, WAMR tries to copy the linked global's initial value into the destination global in the current module. However, a bug in the implementation causes the copy to be done from the InitializerExpression struct, not from its WASMValue field. This did not come up in WAMR's spec test runner because those are built with WASM_ENABLE_SPEC_TEST, which means these globals are resolved as builtins, not linked globals, which goes through a different (presumably not faulty) path.	2024-11-13 14:52:27 +08:00

Previously, the loader only accepted the exact AOT_CURRENT_VERSION value, but now it also accepts version 3. This change ensures that the runtime can load modules AoT-compiled with different versions of wamrc as long as they have compatible AOT_CURRENT_VERSION values. liang.he	c7b2683f17	Fix out of bounds issue in is_native_addr_in_shared_heap function (#3886) ... When checking for integer overflow, you may often write tests like p + i < p. This works fine if p and i are unsigned integers, since any overflow in the addition will cause the value to simply "wrap around." However, using this pattern when p is a pointer is problematic because pointer overflow has undefined behavior according to the C and C++ standards. If the addition overflows and has an undefined result, the comparison will likewise be undefined; it may produce an unintended result, or may be deleted entirely by an optimizing compiler.	2024-10-31 12:44:55 +08:00

James Ring	6b4d8aae2a	Emit load_addr and load_size if WAMR_ENABLE_COMPILER is set (#3835) ... Currently, the open-source builds of wamrc set WASM_ENABLE_DUMP_CALL_STACK, which causes these two fields to be emitted. They are required by aot_emit_exception.c. Marcin Kolny	cbc2078898	AOT call stack optimizations (#3773) ... - Implement TINY / STANDARD frame modes - tiny mode is only able to keep track on the IP and func idx, STANDARD mode provides more capabilities (parameters, stack pointer etc.). - Implement FRAME_PER_FUNCTION / FRAME_PER_CALL modes - frame per function adds code at the beginning and at the end of each function for allocating / deallocating stack frame, whereas in per-call mode the frame is allocated before each call. The exception is call to the imported function, where frame-per-function mode also allocates the stack before the `call` instruction (as it can't instrument the imported function). At the moment TINY + FRAME_PER_FUNCTION is automatically enabled in case GC and perf profiling are disabled and `values` call stack feature is not requested. In all the other cases STANDARD + FRAME_PER_CALL is used. James Ring	5cc94e59ec	Improve posix mmap retry logic (#3714) ... - Only retry on EAGAIN, ENOMEM or EINTR. - On EINTR, don't count it against the retry budget, just keep retrying. EINTR can happen in bursts. - Log the errno on failure, and don't conditionalize that logging on BH_ENABLE_TRACE_MMAP. Anders Bakken	eab409a4df	aot loader: Call os_mmap with MMAP_MAP_32BIT only when target is x86-64 or riscv64 (#3755) ... Mac on aarch64 uses posix_memmap.c os_mmap which doesn't do anything with the flag MMAP_MAP_32BIT for that build so this condition ends up asserting unless the mapping ends up in the first 4 gigs worth of addressable space. Thsi PR changes to call os_mmap with MMAP_MAP_32BIT flag only when the target is x86-64 or riscv64, and the macro __APPLE__ isn't enabled. Anders Bakken	e8c2952bf9	Fix arm64 issues on mac (#3688) ... Make wamrc normalize "arm64" to "aarch64v8". Previously the only way to make the "arm64" target was to not specify a target on 64 bit arm-based mac builds. Now arm64 and aarch64v8 are treated as the same. Make aot_loader accept "aarch64v8" on arm-based apple (as well as accepting legacy "arm64" based aot targets). For JIT, we naturally use mach-o on macOS, where the section name we currently use is not valid and ends up with the errors like: ``` LLVM ERROR: Global variable '__orc_lcl.aot_stack_sizes.0' has an invalid section specifier '.aot_stack_sizes': mach-o section specifier requires a segment and section separated by a comma. ``` Because the dedicated section is not necessary for JIT, this commit simply stops using it. Any use of a table index that isn't exactly a null byte (`0x00`) means that the module makes use of the reference types proposal. This is important to track because `aot_compiler.c` will blindly assume that all table indices are a single byte long otherwise. This fixes a crash in WAMR for modules that contain multi-byte encodings of table indices in `call_indirect` but make no other use of reference types features.	2024-08-16 12:37:10 +08:00
